which materials does jack & sparrow recommend for stencils?
Depending on the use, we recommend different materials:
- Polypropylene 0.8mm – we uses standard polypropylene to make spray paint stencils. this material is strong and flexible and will not break. It is also washable. however, the edges cannot be cut very finely and therefore this material is less suitable for very fine templates.
- Mdf 2mm / 3mm – for one-off and large templates. an inexpensive material that can be used for large and one-off projects. MDF is not washable, but in many cases it can be used several times.
- Plywood 3mm – for stiff and strong templates. plywood is a strong material, but also a bit more expensive than MDF. in some cases, plywood can be a great choice.
- Cardboard gray 1mm – disposable templates can easily be made from 1mm cardboard. this material is also very light and can therefore easily be hung on a wall.
- Acrylic 1mm – suitable for small / fine templates, for example for drawing templates. please note that this material is fragile and is therefore not suitable for situations in which the template also needs to be bent.
- Acrylic 2mm / 3mm – for washable spray paint templates. acrylic is fragile and rigid, and in some cases it is a good alternative to polypropylene.
- Acrylic 5mm / 8mm – for reverse graffiti with a high-pressure sprayer, acrylic in 5mm or 8mm is a good choice.
