International Market Entry & Sustainable Packaging Strategy

Positioning a Canadian performance brand for European expansion.

Context

Trainers Choice is a Canadian performance recovery brand seeking international expansion.

With support from the Ontario Growth Grant, the objective was to establish presence in the Netherlands and build strategic retail connections across the EU market.

The Challenge

Entering a mature European performance category required:

• Clear differentiation
• Sustainable material credibility
• Retail-ready packaging systems
• Cohesive brand positioning

The brand needed structural clarity before expansion.

International Positioning

I worked closely with the founder to structure the brand’s entry into the Dutch market — building distributor relationships, refining messaging for EU buyers, and aligning the brand narrative with regional sustainability expectations.

Sustainable Line Development

A sustainable product line was developed using Yulex — a plant-based alternative to neoprene.

Packaging systems were restructured to reflect environmental positioning while maintaining retail performance standards.

Brand Architecture

Visual hierarchy, typographic structure, and packaging clarity were refined to ensure consistency across product categories and retail touchpoints.

Applied AI in Production

The ongoing relationship evolved to integrate applied AI into brand production workflows. Product visuals are now generated using AI-assisted imaging — replacing traditional photography for retail mockups and presentation decks.

This allows rapid visualization of:
• New product variations
• Retail shelf placement (e.g., Shoppers Drug Mart)
• Concept testing for buyers

AI is used intentionally — to accelerate clarity and reduce production friction.
